THE RISE OF UNDERDOGS

The 2011 Nigerian blog awards have come and gone, but as it’s typical of programs of such calibre it didn’t go without giving me a message. And I want to share same with you.

Some people termed this year awards as “The Rise of Underdogs”, i.e. bloggers who were relatively unknown took the centre stage this year (Well, if you are one of those who have not heard about me before now, I wont blame you if you call me one of them). But what struck me most was the fierce nature in which people contested (Well, at least for some nominees’ I know). I could recall the story I heard of one nominee who collected email addresses of the people he/she knew and voted for her own blog with their email. At first a fellow contestant and I were like “That is to the extreme!” But later some colleagues of mine in the office said something like, “Hey! That’s how you win in a competition like this man!”

Lol. Here was I, a blogger who was hoping to win and Six days after Voting closed a very close friend of mine was asking me on phone, “When is the Voting closing? Can I still vote?” Not that I didn’t tell my fans the closing date though; I guess she just took it for levity until she spoke with me on phone. When I consider her case, even when I did not support getting people’s email and using that to vote for ourselves, I think the person who did that was justified...

Little wonder, the Bible says, “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.” Mathew 11:12 (NIV)

The KJV version of that scripture says, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.”

Did you get it? To advance in life we have to be forceful! We don’t just take things for levity and expect a miracle. Even Bible scholars say when you speak with the devil, you don’t act like a gentle man, and if you are not Violent the devil will just be laughing at you, because the only language he understands is violence. (OMG! God help those of us who are meek) It doesn’t matter your temperament, personality, religion or background; if you don’t really need that thing you seek you won’t get it!

I don’t think you understand what I am saying yet: If you don’t grab what rightfully belongs to you somebody else will take it! It’s not a matter of you changing who you are (if you are meek) it’s a matter of you knowing within yourself that you really need that thing and you go for it with the last drop of blood in you!

  1. I said something the other day, "What you don't pursue will always be far from your reach" | The prove of desire is in the pursuit.

It was a fun experience and I learned from it as well :)

  3. I don't believe people should do something illegal, but yeah, we have to be forceful at times to get what we want.

  4. @ Myne. Exactly my point. I like the way you put it, "... we have to be forceful at times to get what we want." We don't have to apply force for everything/at every time. Stay blessed sister.

I completely agree - I believe we need to have a plan, pursue it with diligence (without doing anything illegal or displeasing to God;)), follow through...and hope and pray for the best=)!

Wish you all the very best, thanks for taking the time to share=)
